Junior was born with too much cerebral spinal fluid in his brain. Junior called this spinal fluid brain grease. A direct result of this is that Junior has 42 teeth, Junior has to wear glasses, Junior is skinny but has enormous hands and feet, Junior is "susceptible to seizure activity" and Junior has a stutter and a lisp. Junior is allergic to pretty much every plant that grows on earth. Junior's way of communicating is drawing cartoons. Junior fell in love at the age of 12 with a Indian girl called Dawn. Junior once called himself Mr. Sad Sack because he was telling how depressed he was.

Junior's best friend. Rowdy is the toughest kid on the reservation. Rowdy is long, lean and is as strong as a snake. Rowdy heart is as strong and mean as a snake too. Rowdy's father is drinking hard and throws hard punches, so Rowdy and his mother always walk around with bruised and bloody faces. Rowdy loves to read goofy, old comic books. At the burial of Mary Rowdy cries in front of Junior, something Rowdy hasn't ever done before.

Mary is Junior's older sister. Mary is beautiful, strong and funny according to Junior. Mary wanted to be a writer of romance novels. Mary's nickname is Mary Runs Away. Mary got married to a poker player from Montana. Mary died at a party of her and her husband. Mary and her husband fell asleep drunk, a fire developed in their "gorgeous place" and they died.

Junior's most beautiful classmate (Junior's opinion). Penelope has a racist dad who doesn't want Junior to touch or even have anything to do with his daughter. Penelope is a big dreamer, she wants to go 

Junior's white, Geometry teacher. Mr. P convinces Junior to leave the reservation. Mr. P is a sleepy, lonely, old man. Mr. P has beaten up Indians because the teachers on the reservation were supposed to kill Indian culture. 

Junior's basketball coach at Reardan. Coach always gives Junior words of encouragement and support. Coach even comes to visit Junior in the hospital.

Junior's Grandmother sometimes gives him some advice about life. Junior calls his Grandmother "the most amazing person in the world" because she is kind, wise and has seen everything. Grandmother was powwow-famous, she knew every powwow Indian. Grandmother was killed by a driver who was drunk called Gerald. Junior knew that Grandmother wanted everybody to forgive him for what he had done to her. 

Junior's mom is Agnes Adams. Junior's mom reads the newspaper in 15 minutes. Junior calls her a "human tape recorder". Junior's mom is an ex-alcoholic. Junior's father is a musician who plays the saxophone, guitar and the piano. Junior's father likes to sing country and blues songs. Junior's father is an alcoholic.  

Dad's best friend. He was like an uncle to Junior, but he was drunk all the time. "He was funny and kind drunk, always wanting to laugh and hug you and sing songs and dance. he was shot and killed by one of his good friends, Bobby, who was too drunk to remember pulling the trigger.

A rich and famous billionaire white dude. He loves Indians and all their customs. He collect Indian art. He comes to Grandmother's funeral to give back a powwow dance outfit he thought belonged to Grandmother.
